communities in mid-Michigan, our area boasts classic small town charm that
retains a rural flavor. With a convenient location just 12 miles south of
Lansing, the state capital, Mason is removed from, but yet close enough to the urban areas
of Lansing, East Lansing and Michigan State University.
PRIDE & HISTORY - The City of Mason and the surrounding townships of Alaiedon, Aurelius and Vevay provide a quiet, clean and safe setting with a feeling of community and pride. From the historic Courthouse and turn-of-the-century buildings in downtown Mason to the many family-owned centennial farms in the surrounding townships, the Mason area enjoys a strong sense of history.
SCHOOLS - The Mason Public School system is strongly supported by the Mason community The school district offers innovative instructional programs, many extracurricular activities, several community services and learning opportunities for students at four elementary schools, a middle school for grades 6-8 and a high school. The total student enrollment is approximately 3,500.
TRANSPORTATION - Mason is closely connected to urban, cultural, commercial and industrial diversity through a system of Interstate, state, county and local roads. Interstate 96 is 7 miles north of Mason and Interstate 94 is 20 miles south of Mason. Capital City Airport, 19 miles north of Mason can take a traveller any place in the world. The Mason-Jewett Airport in Vevay Township offers charter service for passengers and freight and is the largest private aviation school in Michigan.
HEALTH CARE - The most up-to-date health care services and facilities are available from 4 hospital campus sites in Lansing, an urgent care facility in Mason and medical care providers in Mason and in the greater Lansing area. Residents are connected to all of these services and facilities with emergency ambulance services.
HOMES - You can find a home and setting to meet your needs, whether it is a farm or an apartment, an existing home or a place to build that home of your dreams. The Mason area offers you the range of new homes to the historical homes built in the late 1800's. The Mason area is a popular place to live and homes are not on the market very long. Six parks are within the City of Mason. Several are equipped with tennis courts and ball diamonds. All parks are equipped with eating areas and cooking facilities. Bond Park on Columbia Street has a newly constructed skate park
Township parks include Vevay Township Park, Columbia Creek Park in Aurelius Township; Glenna Droscha Park at Aurelius Township Hall; Grand River Park in Aurelius Township which includes cross-country skiing, canoe rental and swimming; Alaiedon Township Park and the Dansville State Game Area immediately east of Vevay Township.
Private Recreation Facilities:
T-ball, softball, baseball, soccer, wrestling & football programs are offered by community volunteers.
Mason's proximity to Lansing, East Lansing and Michigan State University allow residents to enjoy many athletic & cultural events as well as Potter Park Zoo
Mason's 4 elementary schools, Middle School and High School all offer recreational facilities available to the community.
The Ingham County Fairgrounds hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The biggest event is the Ingham County Fair which begins the last week in July each year.
The Michigan Steam Engine & Threshers Club annual 3-day reunion always begins the last Friday in July and includes a large collection of antique working steam engines.
The Annual 5k Run is held on Friday evening, the first weekend of May
Spring Fling arts & crafts show is held the first weekend in May on Saturday.
July 4th Celebration, Parade & Fireworks.
Capital Area Balloon Rally held in mid-August attracts thousands of visitors to the Michigan Trapshooting Association Grounds south of Mason.
