LAST MONTH'S MINUTES

 MASON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE MEETING

August 10, 2010

Present:  Karla Spoor, Pat Weiler, Joe Dean, Chris Iott, Pam Bullen, Tom Botsford, Aleasha Wood, and Doug Klein
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ad hoc committee developments and assignments were discussed:

Good Morning, Mason! -- The next GMM is August 26.  The theme is “Sunflowers and Sunshine.”  Chamber 101 is moving to the October GMM because of the new dues structure.  Text Ripple will co-sponsor.  We’ll push the Raffle and preview Down Home Days.  Mark Howe and Jon Grocki of sponsor Dart Bank will be finalizing Good Morning Mason speakers.

MACC Golf Classic Outing – It was a beautiful day!  Although sponsorship was about the same, we had several more golfers this year.  The golf shirts with different colors from JP Signs were a hit.  Use of Facebook and Constant Contact helped build attendance.  Plans are to do much the same for next year.  The net proceeds will just cover the scholarship this year, as we have about $2000 in overhead cost allocated to this event.

Other items:

Membership -- The membership campaign using the new tiered dues structure is being planned.  Roll-out is September and October, winding up with Chamber 101 at GMM on October 28.

State Conference –Doug Klein continues to meet with the Lansing Chamber as one of their Ambassadors.  This relationship allows our area chamber to better coordinate with the regional chamber regarding the State Ambassadors Conference in Lansing at the end of September 2010.  Early-bird registrations are now due in.

Ribbon Cuttings – GFS is having one at their Okemos location today -- on Tuesday, August 10th at 10:30 AM -- joint with LRCC.)

Visitors Center -- We’re did a Visitors Center table at the Meals on Wheels craft show on July 31.  Suggest a static display if done again.  Needed volunteers.  The Chamber is again did a double booth space at the Ingham County Fair for Mason Values Week.  Good volunteer showing overall.  The booth layout was improved.  Sun Dried Music Fest is coming on August 28th.  We’ll give out both kinds of maps at the volunteer table and distribute leis as part of our sponsorship promoting DHD.  Attendance was similar to the DHD or SF shows -- about 5,000 people.   (A “Sunny” costume was used to have a mascot distribute leis with good results.)

Volunteers -- The committee discussed the launch of the volunteer recognition program, including the first winner, Nicole Dorr of Independent Bank.  We need more sponsors for these monthly $25 gift certificates.

Relay for Life -- The organizers were grateful for Chamber assistance in putting this on around the Courthouse for the first time.  Plans are to probably repeat that next year.

The next Ambassadors Committee meeting will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 7:30 AM in the MACC office.
