MASON'S MEMORIAL DAY

The members of the American Legion Browne/Cavender Post #148, assisted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7309, invite the citizens of Ingham County to join with them to celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2008 in Mason, Michigan -- Hometown USA.

The day's events will start at 8 AM on the Ingham County Courthouse Square with a service including placing of wreaths at the memorial at the corner of Ash and Jefferson.  Names of those from Ingham County who have died in our nations wars will be read, including those from our recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.  This service will conclude at about 9:15 AM.

At 9 AM, the parade will begin forming in the 100 block of W. Oak Street and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM.  This is an open parade and members of the American Legion and VFW will assist. Those wanting to have their names or units mentioned as they pass the Courthouse are encouraged to send their information to: American Legion Post 148, P.O. Box 361, Mason, MI  48854.  No sirens, no getting on and off units, and no throwing candy or any items.  Units must clean up after any animals.

The parade route is east on Oak Street to Jefferson Street, north on Jefferson Street to Maple Street, west on Maple Street to State Street, northwest on State Street to Columbia Street (with a pause at the bridge over Sycamore Creek for Navy services and wreaths), east on Columbia Street into the Maple Grove Cemetery.  All persons participating are encouraged to attend the services at the Veterans Monument inside the cemetery, as those represent the true purpose of Memorial Day.
