MACC GOLF CLASSIC IS

JUNE 23 AT BRANSON BAY

The 33rd annual MACC Golf Classic will take place at Branson Bay Golf Course on Friday, June 23rd. The outing begins with a continental breakfast and check in with shotgun start to follow at 10 a.m.  The cost per golfer is a great value, with 18 holes of golf with a cart, breakfast, lunch at the turn, and the after-golf reception with steak dinner now included.  Contests and prizes are plentiful.  Sponsors are also always an important part of the golf outing and several sponsorships are still available.  A great way to get involved is to sponsor a hole (tee or green).  This opportunity showcases your business as part of an enjoyable outdoor networking event.  We also need non-golfer volunteers to help on the day of the outing.

All Chamber member businesses are invited to provide door prizes and advertising specialties or other items for about 80 “golfer goodie bags.   Each year approximately 100 business people take advantage of this outing to do some business and have some fun on the course.  A hard-working committee helps plan details for the event and volunteers to help on the day of the outing.  For information on sponsorship or to register golfers, see the enclosed flyer or just contact the Chamber office.

Thanks go to all the sponsors who have already signed on to be a part of the Golf Classic.  So far, they include Shafer Redi-Mix, Kelly Automotive Group, Dart Bank, A&W Restaurant, Benedict Auto Body, Ware’s Pharmacy, CRG Directories, Homant Quality Water, Curves for Women, Fiedler Insurance Agency, Flood Reid Agency, Mason Insurance Agency, Joseph A. Young & Associates,  Raymond James & Associates, Merindorf Meats, ServiceMaster Clean, Judy & Russ Whipple, with more to come!

GET READY FOR JULY 4th INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

Enjoy a great July 4th family celebration in Mason this year.  Take in the car show from 10 a.m. to about 5 p.m. in the beautiful setting of Mason’s downtown around the Courthouse square hosted by the County Seat Old Car Club.  Streets downtown are closed to traffic so cars can be on display in a relaxed atmosphere for families to view.  The car show features over 200 vehicles of many types and oldies music played from a specially-equipped 1954 Greyhound Scenic Cruiser bus.  Food will be available all day from vendor and service club booths, as well as from some downtown eateries.

Come back after dinner for mid-Michigan’s only evening July 4th parade, which is hosted by the Chamber.  The open parade starts at Mason High School and proceeds through the downtown area, goes around the Courthouse, and then returns to the school.  For the ninth year, it is sponsored by Ingham County Community News and steps off at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks begin at dusk at the Ingham County Fairgrounds on the east side of Mason. The fireworks are sponsored by the City of Mason, Dansville and Leslie Fire Departments and the Mason Lions Club.

MACC COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Each year, the Chamber awards a $500 community service scholarship to a Mason Public Schools graduating senior.  This year’s scholarship was presented at Mason High School’s awards ceremony on May 11th to Kaitlin Lamphere.  The presentation was made by Dan Schlattman of Daniel J. Schlattman CPA and president of the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce.  This Chamber scholarship emphasizes the importance of community service and is awarded each year to a student who, like Kaitlin Lamphere, demonstrates a sustained commitment to community volunteerism.

CHAMBER VOLUNTEERS VALUED AND NEEDED

Volunteers are a driving force behind all that the Chamber accomplishes each year. From coordinating networking events to overseeing the Chamber’s economic development efforts, volunteers provide the critical resources needed to help the Chamber serve its members.  Right now, we’re in need of a few people to help with our Horse Show on June 9, 10 & 11.  Let us know if you would be able to help out.

Volunteers who serve on our event groups and standing committees enable the Chamber to provide services that strengthen the economic vitality and quality of life in our region by generating economic development, influencing public policy, and providing services that help our local businesses prosper and grow. These committees are a great way to meet fellow members, network and contribute to the community.  They’re also a great way to share your expertise and increase your company's visibility.

Chamber volunteer opportunities are open to all associates and employees of Chamber member companies and organizations. For more information on where you fit in -- or to review the committee, activity, opportunities -- just call Doug Klein at the Chamber office at (517) 676-1046.

FARMERS MARKET RETURNS JULY 15

The 100 block of East Maple Street in downtown Mason will again see a Saturday morning Farmers Market beginning July 15.  The Market will be open every Saturday through October 14.  The Farmers Market is sponsored by the Mason Farmers Market Association, a non-profit group with a Board of Directors that is looking for new members. Ten to fifteen vendors are again expected to offer a variety of produce including fruits, vegetables, flowers - both fresh and dried, plants, foods and value-added products.  The Farmers Market is a program to bring a new, fun, social, and exciting event to downtown Mason and to generate potential customers for existing businesses in the Mason area.

MAY MIXER FEATURED MANY PRIZE WINNERS

Our Margaritaville Mixer on May 18th was a fun networking event, thanks to the hard work of all our MACC Ambassadors.  Over 60 people enjoyed a variety of fun activities, golf games, door prizes, cash bar, tasty food, and beverages at the Eldorado.  The big winner of the “Millionaire Sweepstakes” (winning the interest on a million dollars for one day) was Dr. Lynne Sowers of Sowers Chiropractic Center.  She had a lucky roll of the “big die” of 5, which meant she won at 5%, which was about $135! Thanks to Independent Bank for their sponsorship of the contest.

Our May Mixer euchre tournament produced its first trophy winners:  Jeff Haueter of A&W Restaurant and Mary Tressel of Dart Bank will have their names engraved on our new “traveling trophy.”

Our thanks also go to GCC Technologies, who sponsored a golf putting game that was very popular, and to the many who contributed great door prizes: Dart Bank, LAFCU, Senator Valde Garcia, Randy Gladstone, Sam’s Club, Star Associates, Dart Container Corporation, and the LCC Foundation.

MACC HORSE SHOW IS AT FAIRGROUNDS

For the 34th consecutive year, the Chamber will sponsor the Arabian Horse Show on June 9, 10 and 11 at the Ingham County Fairgrounds.  This is our longest-running Chamber special event.  Cathy Groce, our Horse Show Manager, expects over 250 horses, their owners and trainers from throughout the Midwest to converge on Mason to take part in the show this year.  Participants hope to earn points to qualify for the National Arabian Horse Show finals later this year.  For three days, a large group of professional horse show staff, ranging from the judge to the hands-on blacksmith to the photographer who chronicles winners in each class, will play their expert parts.  We still need a few “non-expert” Chamber volunteers to assist in an “on-call” status for the weekend to help Cathy, so contact the Chamber office if you’ll be in town that weekend!
